Who do you typically work with?
We work with families, professionals, and business owners at all stages of life - from those still building their wealth to retirees focused on protecting and passing it on. What our clients tend to have in common is a desire to hand the complexity of managing their financial lives to a team they can trust, and to get on with living. If that sounds like you, we'd love to have a conversation.
Is there a minimum investment to work with your team?
We work with a wide range of clients and our relationships vary in size and complexity. Our practice is best suited to households looking for comprehensive, integrated wealth management who want a dedicated team managing the full picture. If you're unsure whether we're a good fit, the best first step is simply a conversation - we're happy to talk it through.
How are your fees structured?
We charge a transparent management fee based on the total value of assets we manage on your behalf. The fee is tiered - meaning the percentage decreases as your assets with us grow. Fees are billed monthly in arrears and drawn directly from your account, so there is nothing to pay out of pocket. There are no commissions, no transaction fees, and no hidden costs. A detailed fee schedule is available on request.
Do you charge separately for financial planning?
No - comprehensive financial planning is included as part of our service. This covers retirement planning, tax strategy, estate planning, philanthropy planning, and more. We think of planning as central to what we do, not an add-on.
What is discretionary portfolio management and what does that mean for me?
Discretionary portfolio management means that once we agree on your investment objectives and overall strategy, our team makes the day-to-day investment decisions on your behalf - without needing to call you every time we buy or sell. You are not expected to monitor markets, research companies, or decide when to make changes. That responsibility sits with us.
We build portfolios using a range of tools depending on your situation and objectives - including individual equities, fixed income securities, ETFs, and alternative investments where appropriate. The mix is always tailored to you.
For most of our clients, this provides genuine peace of mind - knowing their investments are being managed thoughtfully by a team that is fully accountable for the outcomes.
How does your team work together?
Our team includes four specialists covering portfolio management, financial planning, tax strategy, and estate planning. We work closely with your existing accountants, lawyers, and other professional advisors - coordinating and quarterbacking the efforts across your full financial picture. Rather than referring you out to different advisors for different needs, we make sure everything is connected and working together on your behalf.
What can I expect when I first reach out?
A first conversation is simply a chance to get to know each other. We will ask about your situation, your goals, and what has brought you to us. You will have the chance to ask us anything you would like. There is no obligation and no pressure. If it feels like a good fit on both sides, we will talk about next steps.
What kind of investment returns can I expect?
This is a question we hear often, and we think it is worth answering honestly. We focus on building portfolios designed to grow wealth responsibly over the long term - protecting capital, managing risk, and compounding returns over time. We do not promise specific returns, and we would be cautious of anyone who does. We do have long-term track records for the investment models we run, and we are happy to share those on request. What we can promise is a disciplined, transparent process and a team that is fully invested in your outcomes.
How do you keep my money safe?
Your assets are held at Richardson Wealth, a Member of the Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF) and regulated by the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO). Richardson Wealth Limited is a subsidiary of iA Financial Corporation Inc., one of Canada's largest financial institutions, providing additional institutional strength and stability behind your assets. CIPF protection covers client assets in the unlikely event of insolvency.
What makes Richardson Wealth different from a bank?
Richardson Wealth is fully independent - there are no proprietary products to sell, no sales targets, and no pressure to put clients into in-house funds. Every recommendation we make is based entirely on what is right for you. As a client, you work directly with experienced portfolio managers and advisors who know your name and your story - not a call centre or a rotating roster of junior staff.
